Apple Pie!

After watching the Pioneer Woman on the Food Network last Saturday I started to crave this apple pie. So I made a special trip into Lake Isabella and bought pie crusts (no I didn't make them from scratch-shame on me), granny smith apples and a couple more sticks of butter.

I forgot how much Tom really loves apple pie, so he was so excited to come home to something smelling so sweet. After the dessert, Tom still snacked on these all throughout the week.

They are super easy to make, and I'd highly recommend them! Here's the link for the recipe.

My New Milking Herd Addition

This is little Delilah, or Dynah, I haven't decided on the name quite yet. Her mama is the one I had mentioned before, Glory, who we bought off of an FFA student.

Glory was bred twice and never got pregnant, so we acquired her, and just assumed that when we got a positive preg check she had been bred by one of our Angus bulls. When Tom told me Glory was calving, I expected to come running up to the barn to see a black Angus calf.

Instead, this is what popped out, a cute little Holstein heifer! Everyone was surprised! Glory must have been preggie when we bought her! So now mama and baby are the start of my very own Holstein milking herd, and my brother-in-law even got me a whole milking kit to get started. I'm hoping Tom brings them out to our casa and we can have our own herd here!

Isn't she cute?

The Culprits

For months I have been wondering why my flowers weren't growing in this specific pot. I watered them regularly, rotated the pot, and even gave it some fertilizer.

Today, I saw this. Yes the four beady little eyes of my white and black kittens (there's 7 identical ones, I can never tell them apart). But boy are they staring me down.

So this is the cat nap bed apparently now, no wonder nothing was growing....

Pistol Annies Concert

And so it is with my friend Jocelyn, yes the photographer, that she talked me into going to a concert with her. This is proof that I actually dress up and go out on the town sometimes....

I had never really heard of Pistol Annies, but she reassured me they were really good, so good in fact, that the tickets sold out in 4 minutes, and she just happened to be one of the first in line.
So I went with Jocelyn and her sis and mom, and oh heavens! I love them!

In my college years, I found a song by Ashley Monroe and told all my roomies about what a great singer she was, and then I didn't really hear much more about her. Well Pistol Annies is comprised of three singers: Ashley Monroe, Miranda Lambert, and Angaleena Presley. They sang amazingly together.

This concert was about a month ago, and I just now downloaded some of their songs, I love the sound, it's really bluegrass, white trash country, my perfect combo. So Jocelyn, you can drag me to whatever concert you want!

And did I mention that as we were sitting in our seats at the Crystal Palace, the three girls were about 5 feet away from us listening to the opening band?! I think I peed my pants a little, so close and yet so far away! What a night. Thanks Jocelyn!

Now You See It, Now You Don't

It's January here on the farm, and instead of cold, stormy, rainy, cloudy weather, it's warm, like 70 degrees! I'm out here watering my yard, cleaning up outside, it's crazy! I'm kind of disappointed that no winter weather has graced our presence yet.

This picture on the bottom of our farm 1 year from today, I even checked the date. It was taken on January 2, 2011. What a difference this year. And no cold weather in sight! I'll still pull out all my winter clothing just in case....
