A Day of Cattle Work

Today I had the chance to go to work with my hubby. We are getting our cattle on camera (sounds glamorous right?) to sell online.

I shadowed him around and took as many pictures as possible. It's a rare occasion for me to go with him to work, and I'd love to do it more often.

Oh yea, my husband is that handsome man on the right, sorry Jack!

Our Flourishing Garden

Did I mention that I only wanted a 4'x8' garden? Well this is what my husband bestowed upon me, yes it's great, but do you see how huge this thing is?

On the other side of both rows of sunflowers are 12 mounds of pumpkins and watermelon as well as 3 more rows of corn, okra, and taters.

This thing keeps me on my toes, I have to harvest at least once a day. And we planted tons of okra since it's Tom's favorite, and let me tell ya, we have okra coming out of our ears, okra anyone?

Chickies & Kitties

Here they are! The newest additions to our farm.

Tom and I happened to come home a day early from our annual getaway, only to be greeted by some very loud chirps, and quiet hungry kitty meows.

I had given up on hatching out chicks since I assumed they would all hatch in the spring, so I'm definitely excited to have 3 little chickies running around, and the mother hen is oh so proud. Its so true to use the phrase "mother hen" she poofs out her feathers and protects those chickies will all she's got!

There are 5 kittens, and I don't know who the father is (what a floozy mama kitty), but they sure are cute. What a tiring job for a mama cat, her first batch was only 3, now 5, whew!

Our Annual Getaway

Well Tom and I finally got the chance to getaway for a weekend.

We headed North up the 395 and stayed in Mammoth Lakes for a couple days. We were able to fish in Bridgeport, visit our dear friends Bob and Beth in Mono Village, and even visit Bodie (a great ghost town which I highly advise to go visit).

This picture is from our last day fishing-Virginia Lake. What a gorgeous view right?

Our First Bountiful Harvest!

Yesterday the Farmer and I harvested our first veggies!

Well, radishes aren't my favorite, but those suckers grow like weeds! The squash is delicious! It's so sweet and great with a stir fry recipe and cheese, yum!

We are definitely looking forward to more veggies, keep beaming down sun!

The Shelton Family Visits

My parents, brother, and Franci came down to visit on the fourth of July weekend.

Here, my technologically advanced dad is showing Tom our house on Google earth. Here, Tom is amazed at the kind of technology that is available. We both still have old phones, no cool internet stuff....

With the great weather, we were able to veg out on the grass, I love sitting on the grass when the sun starts to go down, such a calming experience.

My Handsome Husband

Tom and I decided to plant a garden. I had envisioned a 4' x 8' plot, Tom the farmer envisioned the whole backyard.

Now we have a whole backyard full of veggies, anything you can think of!

I came home the other night to my husband out weeding the garden, what a sight. He's such a farmer. To get off work and still want to work in the garden...how does he do it?

I'll let you see some more pics of the fruits (or veggies really) of our labor after the fertilizer kicks in!
